Film adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas père novel of the same name follows a sailor framed for treason's elaborate quest for revenge.

ABSTRACT
Edmond Dantes is a sailor falsely accused of treason by his corrupt "friends", led by the conniving Fernand Mondego (who desires Edmond's girlfriend, Mercedes Iguanada), and sent to an island prison colony for a thirteen-year sentence. With the aid of a fellow prisoner and some hidden treasure, poor Edmond morphs into the privileged Count of Monte Cristo, using his newfound socioeconomic status to set a plan to exact the ultimate revenge on his old "friends" into motion.
