The city of Paris is found to be sitting atop oil deposits which may rival those of the Middle East; a cabal of influential men intend to empty the city and exploit. Some have caught whiffs of the plan, including eccentric Kathryn Hepburn, who is if anything resistant to change. Adaptation of Giraudoux's play is much more suited to stage than screen; director John Huston was replaced by Bryan Forbes weeks into shooting.
