REVIEWS Review by Meredith Singleton Hopson (posted on 18-Feb-2005) I absolutely loved this movie. It is very thought provoking, emotional, enthralling, very unique... I could go on forever. This is the only Christian Slater movie I thought where he made his mark. The casting was excellent. Everyone had so much chemistry. I watch this movie at least once a week if not two. It gets my mind to start working. I think it is very philosophical, in a existential way. "Happy Harry Hard On," is a character for the ages, timeless. Cynical and truthful, yet, I care so much about the character because I have been there, and I think a lot of us have and can relate. Everything being a true characterization of what the real world is about, smoke and mirrors, but Mark, Christian Slater, breaks down what is the real truth and that is heart warming. None of us in real life being able to be the true "Me." And this movie is about that, not being able to be ourselves because there is so much judgment we all have within ourselves, given our various narratives. The high school itself taking life of these teens a little too seriously when they are trying to find themselves, but only if they fit this certain criteria of "righteous human behavior." A movie that promotes freedom of expression, freedom of thought. I buy this movie every Christmas or whenever I meet someone I befriend with teenagers. I wished I was a teen when it had came out. But it spoke to me even though I was 25 when I first viewed it. I still enjoy it immensely when I see it. Every time I turn it on, it's the first time watching, though I know most of the lines. A must for anyone who enjoys excellent cinema.
