ABSTRACT
The decadent and tumultuous Georgian era of British history sets the stage for this biographical period piece, following beautiful young socialite Georgiana Spencer as she becomes the Duchess of Devonshire by way of her marriage to the Duke. Georgiana's extravagant and popular public image sits at odds with her conflicted personal life, as she is forced to cope with a loveless marriage and promising romance with young politician Charles Grey tempered by the Duke's threats to take their children away from her. Won an Academy Award for Best Costume Design; nominated for Best Set Decoration.
