An ex-FBI agent, traumatized by memories of his old line of work, is terrorized by a serial killer.

ABSTRACT
Los Angeles detective Joel Campbell quits his job and moves to Chicago after spending eight years trying and failing to capture serial killer David Allen Griffen, opting for intense psychiatric therapy and a reclusive life over any further time spent chasing after a sick man. Egged on by Campbell's apparent breakdown, Griffin resumes his murderous activities after a lull, sending photos of his victims to Campbell's new address. Now, Joel must find a way to aid the police's ongoing investigation, even though he is far too damaged to take on anything resembling an active role.
