ABSTRACT A man is struck by a mysterious and inexplicable sort of blindness one day, infecting everyone he encounters as his city soon falls victim to a plague called "white blindness". A doctor's wife, left unaffected by the ordeal, stays at her husband's side when he is "quarantined" alongside a number of fellow sufferers in an abandoned mental ward, feigning blindness in an attempt to lead him and seven other strangers to safe ground while the city descends into chaos and mass hysteria around them.
