Billed as a "post-punk neo-glam rock odyssey", this adaptation of Mitchell and Trask's off-Broadway show features Hansel, a young man from East Berlin who is brought by an American sergeant to the United States and promised marriage under the condition that he undergo a sex change operation to become Hedwig. But the operation is botched, the "angry inch" referring to the surgeon's horrible error. Now Hedwig is isolated in a Kansas trailer park and aspires to become a glam-rock star. Highly original film with excellent musical numbers.
