Director: Mark Herman Writer: Mark Herman From novel by: John Boyne Keywords: Drama, Holocaust A Nazi concentration camp officer's son entertains a secretive friendship with an imprisoned Jewish boy.
ABSTRACT Privileged young German boy Bruno, son of a high-ranking Nazi commandant yet largely oblivious to his father's crimes thanks to his family's decision to shelter him from their country's prevailing political climate, moves from Berlin to the countryside when his father receives a promotion at work. Living in a stately rural manor with strict orders not to explore their backyard, precocious Bruno decides to do so anyway, becoming friends with a Jewish boy in striped pajamas living on what appears to be a farm separated from their land by a fence; tragic complications arise after he discovers that the "farm" is, in fact, a death camp existing to carry out one act of the Nazi government's Final Solution.
