Teacher John Keating at Weldon Academy, a boys' boarding school in New England circa 1959, urges his pupils carpe diem, to seize the day. Keating introduces a small amount of nonconformity into the lives of his already privileged charges, but when push comes to shove, the one who actually takes this advice to the fullest by defying his father comes to a very bad end indeed. Inspiration and sticky drama won Oscar for Best Screenplay, received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.
