EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

Founded 1873 as Cherokee Baptist Female College, it became Shorter Female College in 1877, and Shorter College in 1923 (named for contributors Alfred and Martha Shorter). Shorter became a coeducational institution in 1951, and was re-named Shorter University in 2010.
