EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
Founded informally in 1851 by Rev. Williston Jones, a Presbyterian, organized as the Cedar Rapids Collegiate Institute in 1853. A farmer, Daniel Coe, donated $1500 to the college on the premise that females be admitted as well as males.
