Saab
COMPANY
Founded 1937 as Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, and soon referred to by the acronym SAAB. Acquired by General Motors in 1990; teetered after GM was unable to find a buyer in 2009, and blocked by GM from licensing Saab-developed technology to Chinese investors who had planned to rescue the firm. Sold in 2012 to Chinese and Japanese investors who plan to produce electric cars under the Saab nameplate.
