COMPANY

Manufacturer of Energizer and Eveready batteries, dating back to American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company, founded by Conrad Hubert as a manufacturer of "electric hand torches" (flashlights) in the 1890s. Reorganized as Ever-Ready Battery Company in 1906, and purchased in 1913 by National Carbon Company, a subsidiary of Union Carbide. Introduced Energizer brand alkaline batteries in 1980. Purchased in 1986 by Ralston Purina, which re-established the battery division as a separate subsidiary called Eveready Battery Company. Spun off as Energizer Holdings Inc. in 2000.
