Founded 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Stewart Rolls as Rolls-Royce Limited. Rolls-Royce is a manufacturer of aircraft engines and other defense-related systems, nationalized in 1971 and privatized in 1987. The automobile manufacturer of the same name is a subsidiary of BMW, having been spun off in 1973.
