Founded 1951 by Robert O. Peterson. Original company name was Foodmaker Inc. (NYSE ticker "FM"), in 1999 it changed to Jack in the Box to better reflect public brand recognition. Jack is the rubric for over 2000 fast food restaurants, of which about 600 are operated by franchisees.
