Founded 1994 as Architext, changed to Excite in 1995. Acquired by @Home Network in 1999, becoming Excite@Home. At its peak it made the ridiculous acquistion of Blue Mountain Arts (online greeting cards) for $750M; the division was sold off two years later for $35M. Filed for bankruptcy in 2001. Excite was acquired by Ask Jeeves, a subsidiary of IAC/InterActiveCorp, in 2004.
