Hanesbrands
COMPANY
Founded 1901 by brothers John W. and Pleasant Hanes as two separate businesses, sock-maker Shamrock Mills, and brief-maker Hanes Knitting Company. Shamrock Mills became Hanes Hosiery Mills Company in 1914, and the two companies merged in 1962 as Hanes Corporation. In 1979 Hanes was subsumed into Sara Lee via hostile takeover, and in 2006 it was spun off by Sara Lee as Hanesbrands.
