COMPANY

Founded in 1907 as American Messenger Company by two Seattle teenagers, Claude Ryan and Jim Casey, as a delivery service using bicycles. Company was renamed Merchants Parcel Delivery in 1913, with purchase of its first Model T and merger with another tiny service, Motorcycle Delivery Company. Became United Parcel Service in 1919. Moved headquarters to New York City in 1930, to Greenwich, CT in 1975, and to Atlanta, GA in 1991.
