Southern Strategy

BIBLIOGRAPHY

The Republican Party's strategy of appealing to white racists in the South, former Democrats and Dixiecrats. In the apologetic words of Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman:

"Some Republicans gave up on winning the African-American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here as Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."
Despite this assurance, the Southern Strategy is still actively pursued.
