Harvey Levin AKA Harvey Robert Levin Born: 2-Sep-1951 Birthplace: Los Angeles, CA
Gender: Male Religion: Jewish Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Gay Occupation: TV Personality, Journalist Nationality: United States Executive summary: Prince of the paparazzi Harvey Levin earned his law degree at the University of Chicago, then worked as a lawyer and taught law at the University of Miami and Whittier College. He dabbled in journalism for several years as the legal reporter for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, winning kudos for investigative pieces on abuses by the Beverly Hills Police Department, corruption in the jury system, and lawyers who pad their bills, but it was the trial of O. J. Simpson that made Levin's face famous.
He was a legal consultant for the original incarnation of The People's Court with Judge Wapner, and wrote a book analyzing the legal strategies of the show's plaintiffs and defendants. In 1997 he became the executive producer and legal analyst for the revival of The People's Court with Ed Koch. From 2002-05 he was the executive producer of the Celebrity Justice TV show, chronicling the stars' legal problems, and when that program was cancelled he joined TMZ.com, a joint production of AOL and Telepictures Productions, as it launched in late 2005.
Named for the "thirty mile zone" surrounding Hollywood, Levin's TMZ.com and it's subsequent TMZ on TV eschew the traditional interviews where an actor promotes his next film. Instead TMZ goes for the gut (some say gutter) with celebrity sightings, ambush interviews, and in-depth coverage of scandals. TMZ's journalistic work includes the cell-phone video of Michael Richards' on-stage racial insults, snapshots of John Travolta kissing family nanny Jeff Kathrein on the lips, and the first photo of Rihanna's injuries suffered in an alleged beating by her boyfriend Chris Brown.
