Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: Lowell Mather on Wings Thomas Haden Church worked as a radio disc jockey and voice-over announcer for years, and his first film role was an uncredited bit in one of the worst films of the 1980s, Vanna White's star turn, Gypsy Angels. On TV, he played the dopey Lowell on the long-running comedy Wings, and co-starred with Debra Messing in the mid-'90s sitcom Ned and Stacey. Back on the big screen, he played Lyle van de Groot in George of the Jungle with Brendan Fraser, and reprised the role in a sans-Fraser sequel nobody saw.
Church says he had decided to quit acting and devote himself to cattle ranching, when Alexander Payne offered him the serio-comic role of a womanizing, washed-up actor in Sideways. Church won a shelf full of awards and was Oscar-nominated for the role, and amid the buzz he was named to the coveted position of Next Arch Nemesis for Spiderman 3.
He also wrote, directed, and produced a marijuana comedy, Rolling Kansas, which was barely released and went straight to Comedy Central. Risk Factors: Marijuana
