Songwriter Kara DioGuardia is the daughter of a retired Republican Congressman, and has penned or co-authored pop songs for a variety of artists, including Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Ashley Tisdale, and Paula Abdul. DioGuardia is also an occasional vocalist, working in side projects MaD DoLL and Platinum Weird. The latter is a collaboration with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, begun in 2004. It is interesting in that the band attempted to establish a fictitious history dating back to the early 1970s, including fabricated websites. In 2004 she co-founded Arthouse Entertainment, a publishing and music services company.

The talent competition American Idol selected her as a judge for its eighth and ninth seasons. After two seasons, her contract with the program was not renewed.
