Born to a Honduran mother and a father of mixed European ancestry, David Archuleta began singing when he was young. At the age of twelve, he won "Junior Singer Star" on Star Search, taking a $100,000 prize. In 2008, Archuleta participated in the Season 7 American Idol contest. For his finalé, he sang John Lennon's Imagine, Ryan Gillmor's In This Moment, and Elton John's Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me. He is the youngest ever to make the finals. His youth, audience appeal, and obvious talent made him a favorite to win, but that honor went to contestant David Cook, who had earned 56% of the votes. After Idol, Archuleta released a self-titled album which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. From that album, his cover of Imagine entered the Top 40 at #36. A Christmas album is planned for release in October 2009.
