| Stanley Tucci AKA Stanley Tucci Jr.
Born: 11-Jan-1960 Birthplace: Katonah, NY
Gender: Male Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: Joe Gould's Secret Stanley Tucci has had small roles in big movies such as The Terminal, America's Sweethearts, The Pelican Brief, and he was Puck in Kevin Kline's A Midsummer Night's Dream. He was Walter Winchell in the HBO movie Winchell, but he's rarely been given leading roles unless he's also directing. Tucci has only directed three films, but he's three-for-three -- each is a low-budget gem.
In Big Night, co-directed by Campbell Scott, Tucci and Tony Shalhoub play brothers running a restaurant on the brink of bankruptcy. In The Imposters, Tucci and Oliver Platt play a pair of struggling stage actors stowed away on an ocean liner, but the plot is almost incidental to the slapstick hijinks with the supporting cast. Joe Gould's Secret tells the personal story of two anything-but-ordinary Joes in New York in the 1940s. One Joe is a successful writer at The New Yorker, the other is a brilliant or deluded bum who claims to speak the language of seagulls and says he's writing the "Oral History of the World." Tucci wrote Joe Gould's Secret, too -- he spent five months rewriting more than half the content of the credited script. By the Writer's Guild's complicated rules, that's supposed to get him an "and", as in, "screenplay by Howard Rodman and Stanley Tucci," but it just says "screenplay by Howard Rodman," which still ticks Tucci off.
