Delegate to the Sequoyah Constitutional Convention in 1905, where he largely wrote the Constitution for the state of Sequoyah, which failed admission to the Union. Instead, a combined state from the Oklahoma Territory and the Indian Territory, Oklahoma, gained admission in 1907.
