Executive summary: First to animate Mickey Mouse

Animated the first Mickey Mouse cartoons, beginning in 1928 with Plane Crazy (which he completed alone in two weeks). After having a falling out with Walt Disney, he quit to work for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1930-33, where he animated the ribald adventures of the Mickey Mouse-esque Flip the Frog. Returned to Disney in 1940 as a special effects artist.
