He studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, and obtained minor television roles until 1976, when he was cast as Lt. Wylie in Robert Conrad's Baa Baa, Black Sheep. He followed that up with a season in The Paper Chase before starring as a vigilante in The Exterminator (1980). That film unexpectedly made $35M. Following that success were a series of violent roles, including Warrior of the Lost World (1983) and Exterminator 2 (1984). He co-starred as a transplanted cop in Hawaiian Heat, which lasted ten episodes in 1984. Ginty was also an exhibited painter, and in 1994 he founded and was artistic director of the Irish Theatre Arts Center in Los Angeles. He died from cancer in 2009 at his home in Los Angeles.
