After its release in 2007 WikiScanner exposed several major corporations and political entities that were anonymously white-washing their Wikipedia pages. In 2003, Griffith and another researcher, Billy Hoffman, were served with a lawsuit by Blackboard Inc. over a talk that was to be given at the Interz0ne2 conference. The pair had discovered serious security flaws in the technology used in Blackboard's campus ID card system, rendering it useless for its intended purpose.
