Jacqueline Bisset

Jacqueline BissetAKA Winnifred Jacqueline Fraser-Bisset

Born: 13-Sep-1944
Birthplace: Weybridge, Surrey, England

Gender: Female
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Actor, Model

Nationality: England
Executive summary: The Deep

Growing up in England, Jacqueline Bisset learned to speak French from her Gallic mother, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when Bisset was 15. Young and attractive, Jacqueline worked as a model to earn money to help support the family. As her modeling wage increased, she took acting lessons, and eventually made her film debut as a girl in the background in the 1965 sex farce The Knack and How to Get It. The next year she spoke her first on-screen line in Roman Polanski's Cul-de-sac with Donald Pleasence. In 1967 she played Bond girl Giovanni Goodthighs in Casino Royale with David Niven, and she was (ambiguous link, Steve McQueen)'s girlfriend in the action classic Bullitt. She popped out of her bikini in The Sweet Ride with Tony Franciosa, and she played her first sexy "older woman" (at 25) in The First Time.

In the original Airport, Bisset played the sexy stewardess carrying pilot Dean Martin's love child. She earned enthusiastic reviews for her performance as a Vegas showgirl in The Grasshopper with Jim Brown, and likewise in Truffaut's masterpiece Day for Night. Just as she was first being taken seriously as an actress, she wore a wet T-shirt in The Deep with Robert Shaw, and her career probably hit rock bottom with Sun Myung Moon's Inchon opposite Laurence Olivier in 1981. In Class two years later, she seduced her son's (Rob Lowe) best friend (Andrew McCarthy). In John Huston's Under the Volcano, she played a dotty English dame married to drunk Albert Finney, and in Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills she made love to Ray Sharkey and a chocolate cake.

Her career faded through most of the 1990s, beginning with a starring role in Wild Orchid, and after a long stretch of little-noticed films, she played the mother of Joan of Arc (1999), and the Virgin Mary in a TV movie titled Jesus. In 2005, she had a supporting role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Brad Pitt and her goddaughter, Angelina Jolie, but Bisset's scenes were cut from the film's theatrical release.
