AKA Peter George Popoff
Birthplace: West Berlin, Germany
Religion: Born-Again Christian
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Fraud exposed on the Tonight Show
Peter Popoff is a fraudulent faith healer, which is of course a redundancy. In 1987, he was debunked by skeptical magician James Randi, who filmed video of Popoff's wife using a radio transmitter to feed information to Popoff on stage. Randi showed the video on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, leading to Popoff's bankruptcy later that year. The charlatan has since resurrected his "ministry", selling sea salts, "miraculous" spring water, and "divine transfer kits" on-line. Popoff earned $23M in 2005, according to a report on Inside Edition.
