Executive summary: The Power of Positive Thinking

Declaring that "our American culture is at stake," Peale cofounded the National Conference of Citizens for Religious Freedom in September 1960. Its aim was to prevent Catholic candidate John F. Kennedy from being elected President. Peale resigned from the group three weeks later.


[1] Father a Methodist, and Peale was ordained by the Methodist Episcopal Church, where he pastored (1922-32). At this point he switched to the Reformed Church of America, at Marble Collegiate Church, New York City (1932-84).
