Executive summary: Unsuccessful Nixon assassin Military service: US Army (1954-56) Planned to assassinate President Richard M. Nixon, by hijacking a plane and crashing it into the White House. Byck began his attempt at the airport, shooting his way onto a parked DC-9 and locking himself in the cockpit. Locks on the plane's wheels prevented it from taxiing, and the trapped Byck was eventually shot by police through the cockpit window. He committed suicide rather than be captured.
