Executive summary: Screenplay for Z Spanish writer and activist Jorge Semprún was born in Spain but raised in exile in France during the reign of Francisco Franco. Active in the Communist Party and the resistance movement, he was arrested by Nazis and imprisoned at Buchenwald during World War II. After the war he became an acclaimed author, best known for his autobiographical novels Le Grand Voyage and Quel beau Dimanche, and an outspoken advocate of freedom and peace.
