In 1975, Nyad circumnavigated Manhattan Island in less than 8 hours. She swam from Bimini, The Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida in 1979, without a wetsuit or shark cage -- 102 miles. And she has made four unsuccessful attempts to swim from Cuba to the United States -- 1978, 2011 twice, and 2012.
