| Jon Lovitz Born: 21-Jul-1957 Birthplace: Tarzana, CA
Gender: Male Religion: Jewish Race or Ethnicity: White Sexual orientation: Straight Occupation: Comic, Actor Nationality: United States Executive summary: Yeaaaah, that's the ticket! Jon Lovitz is a famous comedian and actor, a tubby white guy with a nasal, whining voice. His father had always dreamed of a career singing opera, but regretted never pursuing it. He encouraged Jon to pursue whatever career interested him. The young Lovitz broke into comedy in 1982 with the Groundlings improv troupe in Los Angeles, and met Phil Hartman there in 1984. They became fast friends, and when Lovitz was hired for Saturday Night Live, he nagged producer Lorne Michaels to give Hartman an audition, too.
Lovitz performs with "an almost melodic mix of pomposity and self-doubt", and his SNL characters included Tommy Flanagan of Pathological Liars Anonymous, the Devil, and Master Thespian (the latter reportedly based on a pompous professor Lovitz knew from college).
He had small roles in Jumpin' Jack Flash, the spectacularly bizarre Ratboy, Big, and A League of their Own. He was the evil Emperor in Mom and Dad Save the World, taught in High School High, and was Bette Midler's husband in The Stepford Wives. He later provided the voice of Jay Prescott Sherman, for the acerbic animated sit-com The Critic. When his friend Hartman was murdered, Lovitz succeeded Hartman on the last season of the sit-com NewsRadio.
The film Bad Boys, starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, was originally proposed as a vehicle for Lovitz and Dana Carvey.
