A moderate Democrat, Emanuel is pro-choice, voted for the Iraq War, and is a supporter of Israel. As chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he largely engineered the 2006 election victory in which Democrats reassumed control of the US House. At the beginning of the 2007 term Emanuel became the 4th highest ranked member of the House.
Despite widespread disinformation, never served in the Israel Defense Forces.
