Edward Albert was the son of Eddie Albert, the actor who played the city slicker who bought the farm on Green Acres. His mother was Maria Marguerita Guadelupe Bolda y Castilla, who became famous as a dancer and actress under the stage name Margo. Sometimes billed as Eddie Albert Jr., his first film role was The Fool Killer, when Albert was 14. Seven years later, he became famous playing a blind attorney in Butterflies are Free. He played Liv Ullmann's lover and her daughter's boyfriend in 40 Carats, and in an on-set accident Albert was badly injured, breaking his shoulder and collar bone in six places. He continued playing his part, and says he has only seen the film once, at a party where the host screened it in his honor. He remembers it as "a nightmare of pain".

After several years as an American playboy in Europe, Albert's American film career never recovered its previous high profile. He has worked steadily, but mostly in forgettable films like Hard Drive, Space Marines, and Fighting Words. On TV, he played the evil Dr. Bennett Devlin on Port Charles, and the stalker Jeff Wainwright on Falcon Crest. On Beauty and the Beast (before it was a Disney cartoon, when it was a romantic TV show) he gave his life to save the Beast. Albert and his father co-starred in the 1991 Canadian TV movie The Girl from Mars.

Albert was a co-founder and Commissioner of Malibu's Native American Task Force (his mother, born in Mexico City, had some native blood). He was also a drummer, and often wrote and spoke on the topic of medicinal animals. Edward Albert died in 2006 after a 17-month battle with lung cancer.
