He then joined Ascometal, another steel concern, but returned to the French government as an advisor in 1986-87. In private industry again he rose to executive management positions in Matra Hautes Technologies, eventually becoming President of its parent firm, the Lagardère Group. He joined Airbus in 1998, eventually becoming CEO. Forgeard also shares in the chief executive position of EADS as well as membership on the EADS executive committee, a large European aerospace firm (30% French -- half of that Lagardère, 30% Daimler-Chrysler, 6% Spanish, the remainder publcly traded.) He announced that he would be leaving his position at Airbus in June 2005, and was finally succeded by Gustav Humbert in June 2006. That same month Forgeard and Humbert both resigned from EADS and Airbus, respectively, over an insider trading scandal. Wife: (three daughters, one son)
