Jon Turteltaub is a successful director of popcorn movies, including the Jamaican bobsled comedy Cool Runnings, the romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping, and the John Travolta-gets-smart daydream Phenomenon. His most recent film was the lighthearted eye-in-the-pyramid action-adventure National Treasure. Since 1992's Three Ninjas, all of Turteltaub's films have been financed by Disney or its subsidiaries. Turteltaub has a lightly schmaltzy touch, with what one critic called "anti-panache", but given a good script he delivers the movie studios and audiences expect.
