Astronomer Bart Jan Bok mapped the spiral arm of the Milky Way, and studied star clusters, interstellar gas, and the relatively small, dark stellar clouds of gas now known as Bok globules. He met his wife and frequent collaborator, astronomer Priscilla Fairfield Bok, at a meeting of the International Astronomical Union. He also made news but little headway with separate reports in 1941 and 1975 reiterating that there is no scientific or statistical truth to astrology, and he was a founding member of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP).
