Astronomer Louis Henyey studied under Hans Bethe, and laid out a complex mathematical solution, now known as the Henyey method, for calculating the internal structure of stars. Working with his long-time friend, astronomer Jesse L. Greenstein, he designed a new spectrograph and a wide-angle camera that was used in the study of interstellar matter.
