Jones has twice come up on the short list of potential nominees to the Supreme Court, first under George H.W. Bush and in 2005 under George W. Bush, though some have said that she may swing too far to the right to be approved by the senate. She has long advocated toughening bankruptcy law and expediting capital punishment decisions. In 1997, she wrote an opinion nullifying a federal ban on machine gun possession. While she concurred with the decision to reject Norma McCorvey's 2005 petition to overturn Roe v.
