The eldest daughter of then-Governor Sarah Palin (R-Alaska), 2008 Vice Presidential nominee, Bristol Palin came to tabloid fame as a pregnant, single 17-year-old. In her first interview after the birth of her child, February of 2009, Bristol Palin stated, "Everyone should be abstinent, but it's just not realistic at all."[1] Despite having said this, in May of that same year she became "Teen Abstinence Ambassador" for the Candie's Foundation, which is funded by a fashion company whose clothes are apparently designed to make underage teens appear sexy. As the Foundation's spokeswoman for avoiding sex, she lectured on abstinence for two years, and was paid about $262,000, according to the charity's public records.

In 2015, she announced her second out-of-wedlock pregnancy, and said, "I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you. But please respect ... my privacy during this time. I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy."

The father of Bristol's first child, Levi Johnston, was a varsity hockey player at Wasilla High School where they both attended. According to Johnston, Todd Palin offered to buy Bristol a car if she would end their relationship.[2] Johnston's mother, Sherry, was charged on 18 December 2008 with six felony drug counts of "misconduct involving a controlled substance", later revealed to be oxycontin.
