[1] Strong was never a US citizen. President Woodrow Wilson dismissed him from the territorial governorship in 1918 when it became known that he was actually a British subject, born in Canada and not Kentucky as he had claimed. A wife and three children in British Columbia had been abandoned and he took a new wife, Annie, in bigamy.
