REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 3-May-2006) Richard Widmark as Detective Madigan
along with his partner Rocco Bonaro played by Harry Guardino play great
portrayals of New York City Detectives in the late 1960's. Anyone who
grew up around New York in this era will enjoy watching this fast
talking, fast paced drama with an excellent cast including none other
than Henry Fonda as the Police Commissioner. The movie is well directed
with great acting and for people who like real life crime drama. The
characters have flaws that are believable. The only part I had trouble
swallowing is that anyone who was married to Inger Stevens would need a
break from her. But the script and story holds up and even though today
people might cringe at the treatment of women in this movie it tells it
like it is. It is a shame that Mr. Widmark has retired. Watching this
move again last month I had forgotten the excellent quality of Madigan
and it was as fresh as ever since my first viewing over 25 years ago.
