Young half Puerto Rican New York City graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, once homeless but discovered in 1984 by Andy Warhol, bringing quick stardom in the art world but with a tremendous price. Basquiat's career suffered after Warhol's death, and he himself died in 1988 from a heroin overdose. Beautifully filmed and with a good performance by newcomer Jeffrey Wright. David Bowie pulls off an excellent Warhol. Prior familiarity with the artist is helpful.
