ABSTRACT
Joshua "J" Cody, a young Australian man, has lived a life shielded from the violent excesses of his Melbourne-based criminal relatives thanks to mother Julia's protecting him from their dangerous ways. When his mother succumbs to her own demons and dies of a heroin overdose, however, Joshua moves in with estranged grandmother and crime family matriarch Janine "Smurf" Cody, thrust into an unforgiving way of life where he must navigate through his extended family's shady dealings whilst cooperating with a detective determined to assist him in his situation.
