Department store chain, founded 1872 by Lyman S. Ayres. It was acquired 1972 by Associated Dry Goods, which was in 1986 acquired by May Department Stores, which was acquierd by Federated Department Stores in 2005. The final L. S. Ayres stores were rebranded as Macy's in 2006.
